A collective of community changemakers come together during the time of Coronavirus to support and equip grassroots families during difficult times.

DATE

Feb - Mar 2020 (RESTART)

TYPE

Collective Impact

NEW URBAN GOAL

Impact Economy, Wellness City, Future Talent

TARGET PARTICIPANT

Community members, grassroot families, women, corporates, funders

One of the grassroot efforts and collective action initiated by the social innovation sector and community partners to combat the coronavirus outbreak in Hong Kong included making reusable cloth masks for grassroots families. This addressed the challenge of insecurity on access to and affordability of surgical masks beyond the immediate term, and also the practical need to protect themselves while at work or during essential daily activities.

By the community, for the community: 20 HATCH talents (Women employees of the co-working factory) support the making of upcycled cloth masks, to be distributed to beneficiaries through SVhk & alliances together with other necessities and health tips.

From fear to collective action and hope: a consortium of community and cross-sector partners contributing to this joint effort include HATCH (production space, management of production team, logistics), Social Ventures Hong Kong (distribution network and mechanics, impact storytelling), Airland (mask design and sampling, production materials, production process oversight) and funders (support production resource needs, volunteers for distribution)
