SVhk embarked on the Odyssey journey in Jan 2020 by inviting friends and partners from the impact space to reflect, refresh and restart together. On Jan 10, SVhk co-hosted the first-ever Impact Community Get-together with Dream Impact, Social Entrepreneurs Meetup, Shared Value Project Hong Kong, Good Lab , Circular Community, Global Shapers Community Hong Kong, HKCSS and SEBC.
“While we all social innovators in the impact community are putting in a great effort in making the society a better place, never forget to breathe and always be aware of the wellness of our mind and body,” a participant shared her powerful reminder to start from within when it comes to creating change.
THE CONFIDENCE TO REST
It takes courage “REST 息” in a world of doing. At Mindshare, an event series hosted by BEI VITA to facilitate intimate spaces for meaningful conversations, Rachel (Assistant Manager, Impact Capital team) and Tiffany (Impact Producer, Sonova, SVhk) share their personal journeys with “REST 息” on a personal and community level.
Through leading SVhk’s summer internship Social Leaders Programme, Tiffany witnessed how a group of local youth turned restlessness into action during the social turmoil of 2019 in Hong Kong. Joanna, one of the interns and a student at HKUST, held street booths to provide free counseling services for people share their feelings without judgment. “After those challenging months, we realised what we needed was not to do more, but to do differently, to do together, or maybe, to not do at all for a moment and just hold and listen to each other.”
Individual action can turn fear into hope that inspires others. Rachel shared cases about how families go through personal and collective transformation at LightBe, the first social housing enterprise in Hong Kong founded by SVhk. “Through Lightbe, we explore how we can create the best environment for individuals and families to restart, reimagine and rebuild their lives. By providing a space that nurture one girl’s growth, it could encourage her mother’s transformation, who then joyful and actively volunteers in community activities and returns to the workforce. “REST 息” can be a powerful source of restoration for collective growth.”
